Has the extremely long Notifications list already been put on the list? Do we always need to scroll 3 days back to get the "Mark all as read" button?
Yes, reported in multiple threads now, including this one, I believe. Reported directly to the dev team.

Thanks Jim!
How can I ask question if I do not have 'ask' button? According to guide if I'm new I need 'reputation' by... answering questions. But I'm new!! I do not know Apex so I will NEVER answer questions! What a fantastic logic was there
Try this: https://community.oracle.com/tech/apps-infra/kb/articles/6-newbie-guide As you can read there, there are other ways to advance from the "newbie" status. Read the whole thing, it's not too long.
He's Green Ribbon now. Asked the question in the thread + First answer.

Nothig has changed; I still do not see 'ask' button.
...I cannot change random nick even. Who created this software? :-)
Sign out and sign back in. You moved up from "Newbie" level.

Changing your nickname must be done on profile.oracle.com.
Instructions to do so: Here
The vast majority of questions, including your initial questions about the newbie level, have posted answers in our knowledge base, which is linked from the "help" and "resources" link.

No option there to change nickname
Please add detailed instructions to the Knowledge Base describing how the Search functionality works, particularly addressing how to perform advanced searches using compound Boolean expressions, as was possible in the old system (at least until recently).
Hi,
After my old documents were transitioned, if I try to edit some, it tells me they are 1000's of characters too long. Even if I add one extra character. So it seems the newly converted document to discussion breaks some character limit but is still allowed to be displayed. How can I make any changes to these 'now' discussions if they already break some character length rule.?Why is there length rule to begin with?
Thanks in advance.
A nickname is a display name. You indeed have the option to change it if you follow the instructions.
These are the same instructions from the old system, that has not changed.

It's, along with the whole "why is it only allowing me to edit in HTML code?" issue. Reported and they're working on it. Along with the fact that it puts users in an editor that's not standard.

@Jim Finch-Oracle, seems like special chars in usernames are not supported - thus making editing an existing profile impossible it seems, when the existing username has special characters.
E.g.
I added the tilde when I had to create a second account after an e-mail change, and an e-mail update was not supported. Thus to make the 2nd account name unique, I substituted the space between name and surname with a tilde. This was 20+ years ago... 🤔 No wonder I feel like an old fart around here... 😁
>>This was 20+ years ago... 🤔 No wonder I feel like an old fart around here...<<
That's why we got our "Ancient" badges :-)
Even normal blank spaces aren't supported so any normal, actual name is an invalid user name.
I find it sad that we need to rename ourselves in order to fulfill a very restrictive rule. We can have emojis in table names but not blank spaces in our names - two extremes of implementation of technological capabilities.
Thanks Billy, it's not by design. I thought that had been fixed earlier in the week. Reporting again.

It's not a "rule," it is a bug. Reporting.

Hi Jim, we need "sticky" threads to always keep at the top of the forum to prevent new members from wasting time posting about the most common issues, and also to help publicize announcements such as new releases.. And forum owners need the rights to sticky them of course.
And forum owners should be able to lock/unlock threads to disable/enable replies. This is useful when the post is meant simply as an announcement and follow up should be done in other threads.
Thanks for all your hard work on this!
Fonts are still broken on the Search page.
Hi
I am following a number of EBS Communities but I am not receiving any emails when new announcements get posted on the communities. The only emails I receive are for this Feedback thread. I have the Email box ticked for all notifications in my profile. Any ideas as to why I'm not getting the EBS emails?
Thanks
Paul
We ran into a bug with advanced notifications last week, I'll do some testing today and if the bug is fixed, I'll re-enable them. That should allow you to receive notifications from top level categories.

I'm pretty sure this has been asked already, but did anybody check utilization of the forums before and after the upgrade?
Certain communities are plain and simply dead. As in: no contributions anymore.
@Christian Berg , 'somebody' did ask 😁: https://community.oracle.com/tech/welcome/discussion/4476046/stats-on-forum-usage-how-does-the-new-compare-to-old#latest
And the same reply. I, nor my moderation team, am not authorized to discuss or release usage figures.

Hadn't that question but I'd also be interested in trends.
On the other hand we see this:
https://community.oracle.com/tech/welcome/categories/3077
@Sven W. Interesting. Where did you find the link
https://community.oracle.com/tech/welcome/categories/3077
When I search for SQL & PL/SQL I find this link only https://community.oracle.com/tech/developers/categories/sql_and_pl_sql
which shows
Is it possible that you have used an old bookmark?
Timo
I just noticed this after posting. I think I got there via a google search or some browser suggestion (pocket maybe?) . However I also have an old link to the original plsql space saved: https://community.oracle.com/community/groundbreakers/database/developer-tools/sql_and_pl_sql
And this is wrongly redirected to the link in the welcome space (https://community.oracle.com/tech/welcome/categories/3077).
There are reports of relinks like this not working. I'll report to the vendor.

Syntax highlighting for code blocks is
a) difficult to use
b) does not consider language properly.
It seems that highlight.js is used for syntax highlighting. Highlightjs has some kind of autodetect for the language. This autodetect does not always seem to work. Looks like some of my PLSQL code was detected as ruby for example.
Demo:
SQL block
PLSQL Block (with SQL)
PLSQL block (without SQL)
See that the syntax highlighting differs between the two code snippets?
I suggest to add an option so that we can actively choose which language this code block is.
Maybe even add a default depending on the forum space (for example SQL if inside PLSQL space, javascript if inside Oracle JET space, etc.)
-- EDIT:
The autodetect also constantly changes which language it detects. However almost never it is the appropriate language.
The plsql blocks sometimes were considered as nginx, ruby or ada (to be fair ada is quite good!) . The SQL statement is currently recognized as "bash".
Just a quick note to add my "vote" to Sven W.'s comment regarding syntax highlighting. I would much rather do without; just let all the code be in the same font (same color, no automatic boldface, etc. - and no automatic indentation). Even better - let me indent as I wish, color-code as I wish, etc. Often - at least in the SQL & PL/SQL forum - we use color, not to highlight different tokens in the code, but to highlight what is important, what has been added compared to an earlier solution, etc. No automatic syntax highlighting can do that kind of highlighting.
I understand that other forum participants may have different preferences - they would rather see syntax highlighting, and have it done automatically. Even then, though, that shouldn't be done unless we can have highlighting appropriate for the language the category is about. BASH highlighting for SQL code? In what universe?
And what's up with dumb things like below - what language are they ever appropriate for?
We have a string, 'Happy New Year!' Any parser should recognize it as a string (begins at a single-quote, ends at the next single-quote). So, why is just the first word highlighted, and not the entire string?

Personally, I'd be happy if it would simply use a mono-space font. If they could just get that simple concept right, detecting and colorizing language-specific reserved words would just be gravy. (Actually I find colorized code to be a distraction, but I understand its usefulness in spotting typos and such.)
No longer a newbie on my test account.
Whilst the new site offers some niceties, many of us feel there are some severe losses in functionality compared to the old site. Some of my inputs :
Can't login on a mobile. Go to login... the login credentials box height shrinks to the point you can't see the username /password boxI have many more issues, but don't want to come across as all negative, I just feel the site has a lot to be desired.
Paulzip - I concur on every point you made.
2 . Can't login on a mobile. Go to login... the login credentials box height shrinks to the point you can't see the username /password box
Paul, this works fine for me. The logon is not driven by Vanilla Forums, but by Oracle SSO. I get the logon page, it looks fine, and I log on.
The forums is a it of a tight squeeze, but I have read and replied to responses from my mobile. But then my expectations of a site like this on a mobile are not high.
Hi Billy, I checked again and it's working for me too now. The logon is now a separate screen rather than an inline popup box which was where I had the issue.

I had a weird error a few days ago. Logon works fine. Vanilla Forums on mobile showed me as a no-points no-posts no-discussions newbie. Checked via my desktop and it showed my proper profile.
Difficult to debug on a mobile, but it seems like a different CDN was used that were missing Javascript?
Or you landed directly on the 'hub' where you first have to select a community (customer, developer,...). IF you are on the 'hub' landing page you are logged in, but your profile looks empty.
Timo
@Billy~Verreynne yep, I noticed the same, but as Timo says it depends if you're on the landing page/hub or not. Once you click in the Developer Community, then you see you have notifications/messages etc. Seems odd to me though... If I'm logged in as me, considering it's "single sign on", so just me... one account for all (all for one!) then I'd expect to see MY notifications/messages regardless of where I am in the platform. I can understand points being specific to different communities, but a notifcation/message is a notification/message to me that I need to know about regardless of where I am.
