    Issue with RMAN backup

    601543
      Hi All,

      Oracle version 10.2.0.4.0
      Linux O/S

      I trying to back the database through RMAN and the backup appears to successfully backup datafiles but fails when trying to backup up control files. And Controlfile Autobackup is set to ON.

      Please advice.

                Does OS messages file show any disk errors?

                post results from following SQL

                SELECT GROUP#, STATUS, MEMBER FROM V$LOGFILE WHERE STATUS='INVALID';

                Why do you waste time here when more than half your posts go unresolved?

                        If you have a Flash Recovery Area defined (by db_recovery_file_dest), Oracle attempts to write the controlfile autobackup there (under databasename/autobackup). Alternatively, if you have configured a specific location for the autobackup with the RMAN command CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE FORMAT DEVICE TYPE DISK=DISK TO 'location', Oracle attempts to write there.

                        Check if the designated directory does exist !

                        (If you haven't specified either location, Oracle writes the backup to $ORACLE_HOME/dbs -- which, I am sure, should exist).

                          Hi hemanth,

                          We have configured the Flash Recovery Area, and all the backups are saved in this paticular location.

                          We are able to backup the datafile but not the control file.

                          Thanks

                            Hello Mr sb92075,

                            You asked me why am i here when half of my posts go unresolved?

                            You got the answer I guess....

                            And one thing you better mind your own business, it should not bother you if my posts go unresolved.

                              Then, the controlfile autobackups would be going to the FRA/autobackup directory with a seperate directory for each day.

                              You could create a 2009_12_11 subdirectory and then try doing an
                              ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO 'locationofFRA/autobackup/2009_12_11/cntrlfile.bkp';
                              from SQLPlus as SYSDBA
