        is it fine enough now?
        BUT i am encountering the same error INS:-40910 (!!!)
        i hope /etc/hosts should be edited in another node also(??)

          well, this error means:
          INS-40910: Virtual IP: string entered is invalid.
          Cause: The Virtual IP did not resolve to an IP address.
          Action: Enter a valid VIP that resolves to an IP address.

          what exact name did you enter as VIP?

          can you lookup the OUI logfiles for this session and post the relevant parts? (this would give us more information)

            ISSUE IS SOLVED NOW.I HAD TO DELETE /etc/.hosts.swp file after editing /etc/hosts.Delting that .hosts.swp and re-editing the particular file makes the thing for me.

            Some ADDED QUESTION(s):

            1)/tmp/OraInstall2010-02-08_06-10-28PM no log after exiting the OUI.so... where to find that log?
            2)do i need orcl ie.global id and SID in DNS?

              just as a quick check: rac1vip.sayantan-chakraborty.de does resolve to an ip address on the commandline? (using it with ping leads to an ip address? (and it doesn't respond, of course))

              in the inventory directory there should be a logs directory, which keeps logs of all installer and configuration assistants.
