I guess that this a in eBusiness-related question, because in standard forms there is no such functionality as chaning the color when entering query-mode.
You may have better luck posting your question in the eBusiness-forum, maybe here OA Framework
The fact that it doesn't change color when you "Enter Query" mode tells me your Custom Form does not conform to Oracle Application Programming Standards. I recommend you visit the Oracle Applications Documentation web site, choose your EBS version and scroll down and look at the Oracle Applications User Interface Standards for Forms-Based Products and Oracle Applications Developer's Guide to ensure your Custom Form conforms to Oracle Standard.
Also, I suggest you always use the TEMPLATE.fmb (or if you can't find this form, use the APPSTAND.fmb) as the starting point of any Custom Form. This will ensure you have the minimum required objects and code in your form.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for your responses. I have used template.fmb for the development. The query functionality is working fine (like hitting F11 makes the form go in query mode and Ctrl+F11 retrieves the results). The only issue is about the color. Was wondering if there is anything extra needed, or any trigger to be modified to resolve this.
Happens the same issue with me, anybody know the answer?, I used the template.fmb, and when I query it turns to white instead blue!
I checked the properties in other posts like:
Use APP_STANDARD.EVENT('WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE'); in trigger WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE
or change the hierarchy execution to before and also I tried with after. Please Advice.!!
As I mentioned in my original reply, this functionality is a feature of the Oracle Enterprise Business Suite (EBS) and you should be following the Oracle Applications Developer's Guide found at the Oracle Applications Documentation web site. If you could not find your answer here, then you should post your question in the EBS General Discussion. This forum is for general Oracle Forms questions so if you have a general Forms question, by all means ask it here!
After I remove my WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE trigger from datablock the blue color returns when I put the datablock in query mode, I think that you need to check if you are setting properties in this trigger or check if you have the app standard event built in after your custom code.
