      Dear all,

      10.1.0.2.0. on linux.

We have a test instance went down and when starting the database, am getting the below error :

RECOVERY OF THREAD 1 STUCK AT BLOCK 339116 OF FILE 4
      Sun Jun  6 10:37:32 2010
Aborting crash recovery due to error 1172
      Sun Jun  6 10:37:33 2010
ORA-01172: recovery of thread 1 stuck at block 93555 of file 16
ORA-01151: use media recovery to recover block, restore backup if needed
I dont have a backup as this is a test instance. How can I recover this ?

you cannot recover your test database while media error occured without backup.

You could create an empty datafile and recover the database provided you have all archivelogs.
You could drop the affected tablespace and recreate it, and import from the production database.

Other than that, playing the Marcia Funebre by Chopin is in order.
