    LRM-00109: could not open parameter file

    779843
      Hi,

      I am trying to install Oracle 11g in RHEL5.2 64 bit OS with silent option. But I am getting following error message while starting the service.

      <snip>
      [oracle@localhost ~]$ /tmp/startup.sh

      ===================================
      To install Oracle 11 g silently I have followed the steps as;
      ===================================
      1. Create the recorded.rsp using OUI i.e. using RHEL's GUI.
      2. Set the require environment variables.
      3. Using oracle user give this recorded.rsp file as input to runinstaller script as follows .
      ./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /tmp/recorded.rsp ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/ ORACLE_HOME_NAME=oracle METALINK_USERNAME="myoracle" METALINK_PASSWORD="user@123" –ignoreDiskWarning
      4. execure following commands as root user.
      /u01/app/oraInventory/orainstRoot.sh
      /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/root.sh
      5. Start the service as follows
      export ORACLE_SID=orcl; /tmp/other.sh; emctl start dbconsole ; lsnrctl start

      Questions:
      1. Need to know my stps and commands are correct.
      2. How to resolve this error?
      3. Is there any rpm available to do this all tasks?

            Yes the files are exists as follows.

            <snip>
            [root@localhost ~]# cat /tmp/startup.sh
            export ORACLE_SID=orcl; /tmp/other.sh; emctl start dbconsole ; lsnrctl start

            [root@localhost ~]# cat /tmp/other.sh

              Schavali meant to ask whether this file
              /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/initorcl.ora

              exists.
              The message says it either doesn't exist or you don't have the privilege to read it.
              Generally speaking you should be connected as oracle when you start the database, and you should use the oracle provided script (in $ORACLE_HOME/bin) dbstart to do that.

                No this /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/initorcl.ora file doesn't exist.

                And I am running all the scripts using oracle user.

                FYI, following are the environment variables set in /home/oracle/.bash_profile

                <snip>
                ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle

                export ORACLE_TERM

                PATH=/usr/sbin:$PATH
                export PATH

                ORACLE_UNQNAME=orcl
                export ORACLE_UNQNAME

                  Your silent installation, does it really include a database creation? If such an option exists, DB creation was not successful.

                  By default (after a successful database creation) you have a valid spfile (not init<SID>.ora). If a spfile does not exist, Oracle searches for a pfile. If even that does not exist you get LRM-00109.

                  So I assume you don't have a database, if you don't have a database you also cannot have dbconsole (OC4J Configuration issue ..) .

                  The listener problem normally means you don't have in /etc/hosts:

                  127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

                  Check your environment and follow strictly the installation guide,

                  Werner

                    Thanks for the reply. But I have few more queries.

                    1. Is there any error in my oracle installation command?
                    2. How to check whether my DB creation is successful?
                    3. Is there any option to include a database creation in silent installation?
                    4. Is there any hostname dependency for oracle installation?
                    5. Is there any standard recorded.rsp file available? i.e. with default values.

                      1 this question can not be answered as we don't know what is in recorded.rsp
                      2 logs are in cfgtoollogs\dbca
                      3 that would typically have been documented by Oracle
                      4 Oracle will simply run the hostname command and use the result
                      5 Oracle did deliver samples in the past, a
                      find -name *.rsp
                      would retrieve them.

                              Just read the your recorded.rsp file.
                              A general purpose database should have been installed.
                              I believe the log directory is also valid for Unix, though I don't know what is in front of cfgtoollogs.
                              I have 10 log files in that directory, several of them Clone and Restore
                              The Oracle provided databases are restored, not created.

                                  Sigh

                                  1 You didn't respond to any of my questions
                                  2 Instead you are hijacking the thread by including new problems
                                  3 You seem to be unwilling to do any troubleshooting on your own which boils down to
                                  - looking up the error in the online documentation,
                                  - following up the recommended actions in that documentation.

                                  As such, due to your non-cooperative and rude attitude, this is more an issue for the paid denizens called 'Oracle Technical Support', as at least they are being paid for being treated like this.

                                  No further help is possible.
