    How to set ORACLE_UNQNAME ?

    763608
      Hi, greetings.

      I am trying to install OEM11g. so far I have done following successfully:

      1. installed oracle 11.2 database (orcl) , ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1, followed the instruction to deconfigur all the necessary parameters and so on.

      2. installed WLS

      3. Installed OEM 11g without any error message.
      for OMS11g, ORACLE_HOME is /oracle/oracleoem/oms11g,

      After installation, I did follwowing:

      ++++
      [oracle@xxxxxx bin]$ emctl status oms
      Environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME not defined. Please set ORACLE_UNQNAME to database unique name.

      [oracle@xxxxxx bin]$ export ORACLE_UNQNAME=orcl

      [oracle@xxxxxx bin]$ emctl status oms
      EM Configuration issue. /oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/nimhorx.nimh.nih.gov_orsx not found.

      [oracle@xxxxxx bin]$ emctl getemhome
      EM Configuration issue. /oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/nimhorx.nimh.nih.gov_orsx not found.

      [oracle@xxxxxx bin]$ emctl status dbconsole
      OC4J Configuration issue. /oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_nimhorx.nimh.nih.gov_orsx not found.

      ++++

      now, my questions are:

      What ORACLE_UNQNAME supposed to be?

      How do I set it?

      Thanks a lot for any help or advice.

      Wendy

          Hi,

          Can you please do the following and check whether it works:

          cd /oracle/oracleoem/oms11g/bin:

          ./emctl status oms

          Regards

            This is what I did

            1. export ORACLE_UQNAME=<SID>
            2. ./emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
            3../emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
            4. emctl start dbconsole

            and it worked

              Iam not sure what exactly are you trying to achieve here. I thought you were using Grid Control.
              But now it seems that you have configured the database control, Not the Grid Control?

              --Lai

                That is true , I am doing dbcontrol and not grid control

                Thanks

                  Hi, Lai:

                  Thanks for your advice.

                  so I followed your suggestion, ignore the 'ORACLE_UNQNAME' for now, just went to /oracle/oracleoem/oms11g/bin and issued the ./emctl status oms...

                  the messages says:

                  +++
                  Web tier is up
                  Oracle Management server is down.
                  +++

                  so I did ./emctl start OMS. the message says:

                  +++
                  Starting Webtier...
                  Webtier could not be started.

                  +++

                  so I did ./emctl stop OMS, and then ./emctl start OMS, still get the same error, Webtier could not be started..

                  any suggestion ? is it because the ORACLE_HOME is still at this moment set to the database not OMS home?

                  Thanks a lot for taking time to help me out.

                    Hi, user9161263 :

                    When I set ORACLE_UNQNAME to my database sid, it did not work for me. plus I am trying to do Grid control configuration, so this ORACLE_UNQNAME is confusing me, maybe I should set it to OMS home?

                      Hi,

                      Initially when you did 'emctl status oms' that was from DB_HOME/bin, NOT from OMS_HOME/bin. So at that time it was just a matter or setting the right home and retrying the same command.

                      But from your previous update, it seems that you did :

                      2. ./emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
                      3../emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create

                      After this I believe your Grid Control repository is dropped and it has configured the database control.
                      Now It seems that you have lost the Grid Control repository.

                      Regards
                      Lai

                        Hi, Lai:

                        Thanks for your help.

                        I think you confused me with another poster 'user9161263'. I did not drop my grid control repository. and all my posts have my name 'Wendy' at the end.

                        Now, my questions are

                        1. should I assign ORACLE_UNQNAMW to my database oracle_home or OMS_HOME ? or I don't have to assign that ?

                        2. I notice that after EM installation, two new entries were added to /etc/oratab file like this:

                        *:/oracle/oracleoem/oms11g:N
                        *:/oracle/oracleoem/agent11g:N

                        Those two entries mean that the oms and agent will not automatically start when server is reboot, right, what should I do to make it automatically start after database is started ( I understand that I need to start the OMS aftter DB is started) when OS is rebooting.

                        3. I am still working on start Webtier, will give you update when I figure out how to do it.

                        Thanks a lot for your time and effort, really appreciate your help.

                        Wendy

                          Hallo Wendy,

                          Apologise for the confusion. Should have read the thread correctly on who posted.

                          You can use the following command which will start the webtier and OMS:

                          /oracle/oracleoem/oms11g/bin/emctl start oms
                          /oracle/oracleoem/oms11g/bin/emctl status oms
                          Please let me know the exact results of both

                          Regards

                            Hi, Lai:

                            thanks for the advice.

                            I am not sure weather it's related or not, but as I stated on post #6, when I issued ./emctl start oms the other day, I kept getting 'Webtier could not be started' error..... today, I restarted the database, and then start OMS again, now both 'webtier' and Management server started up with no errors....wired. but thanks a lot for being with me and all the advices.

                            Now, do you mind take a look at these two questions:

                            1. should I assign ORACLE_UNQNAMW to my database oracle_home or OMS_HOME ? or I don't have to assign that ?

                            Thank you so much.

                              Hi Wendy,

                              Regarding the after reboot startup (and shutdown) question take a look at http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora11gR1_elinux.html. You can find other startup/shutdown scripts on the internet.

                                Hi Wendy,

                                The Grid Control has the startup scripts included in following folders:

                                ../agent11g/install/unix/scripts
                                ../oms11g/install/unix/scripts

                                So in this case the oms and agent should be automatically started. Can you try a restart and see whether the OMS comes up.

                                Regards
                                Lai
