ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated Disconnection forced on standby

    787833
      Hi,

      I have following scenario.

I have setup dataguard in which Primary and standby are of diffrent oracle releases.

      PRimary database : 10.2.0.1.0
      Stand by : 10.2.0.4.0

      Primary database - Windows 2000
      Standby : Windows -2008

I have sync both database in mount mode.

But when I tried to open stand by database it is giving below error.

ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated Disconnection forced on standby

      Thanks and Regards

That is not possible configure data guard with different oracle software and OS software(in 10g).
To configuring standby database you have to use same software, but hardware can different.
Otherwise that is not supported. As you see you will get an error.

                        Hi,

We can neither downgrade the standby database to 10.2.0.1 nor upgrade the primary database to 10.2.0.4.

As we have windows 2008 on standby database and 10.2.0.1 is not compatible with Windows 2008.

You have to startup in upgrade the production database not standby. Pls, follow below steps:

Install 10.2.0.4 patch on production database (follow guide in patchset documentation)
Startup upgrade production db and execute mandatory scripts (see guide)

You DO NOT need to execute the same scripts in standby, because all changes will be written into redologs at production and then will be transfered/applied at standby side.

At the end, such error should disappear from alert log from standby.

Upgrade the primary database then. Why have you not upgraded the primary database by the way? I think you need to do that.
