I read the javax.comm api and noticed that it is supported for Sun and Linux but not for windows. is there a standard way for Windows also? I would like to build a simle app that communicates with external handmade device via parallel port.
Has anyone been able to work on reading/listening to parallel ports using JAVA?
I am working on a project that listens to a parallel port and I am having a problem, big time.
Need some advice, the only thing I have done so far is detect the port (LPT1) but I have
never successfully opened and communicated with the port.
Any words on this?

Yes, Sun gave up on Windows for its communications API. You should use rxtx (http://users.frii.com/jarvi/rxtx/ and http://rxtx.qbang.org/wiki/index.php/Download) if you want to connect to serial or parallel ports in Window
