Well, I always thought there was a socket pool, but there isn't - at least that's the informed opinion of folks from Sun. I believe the RMI documentation suggests that there MIGHT be a pool.
The RMI specification is worded so that there can be a thread pool, and I am told that IBM's JDK has a thread pooling in RMI. Sun's does not.
Very belated edit: that 'informed opinion' is quite incorrect. RMI clients run a connection pool. See all the RMI system properties that control it.
Well, I'm more interested in open Socket connections and not necessarily the RMI threads themselves. Is there some mechanism to see all the currently open Sockets in a JVM?
Only via the sun.rmi system properties which control transport logging.
