Difference between Object code and byte code??

I want to know the difference between Object code of C and byte code of Java.....becoz both of them are in the form of bits and bytes....then where does the difference lie which makes Java platform independent ???


I thought its the Usage of JVM which makes it platform independent but not sure what the answer is???
