Java3d is an exciting platform for creating 2D and 3D computer graphics. It is built on top of OpenGL and has enough abstract classes devoted to various cases. The best way to getting started with Java3d is going to sun's official tutorials i.e. http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/java3d/
second excellent resource is http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/j3dguide-1-149772.pdf#search="java 3d tutorials"
thirdly you can check out IFE's computer graphics course that provides stepwise training in java3d just visit
and finally do visit http://www.java3d.org/tutorial.html as well
hope these are sufficient for easy beginning...
in the source code accompanying sun's official tutorials on Java3d(the first link i've provided) is moved elsewhere since oracle has undertaken sun. However here's a copy of the source codes. Get them at http://www.interactivemesh.org/off/download/java3d_tutorial_examples_src.zip.
Just go though the tutorials and follow the source code, java3d will be an cakewalk..
