My application cannot launch help when running through Java WebStart and throws AccessControlException (java.util.PropertyPermission (user.home) read). I added allPermissions to user.home read in Tomcat's catalina.policy.xml file and changed the permissions of the help.jar to 777 and still didn't fix the issue. When I run java -jar myApp.jar, help loads fine. It also loads fine on earlier versions of Java. The Exception starts out similar to this:
Parsing failed for null
Exception caught while parsing nulljava.security.AccessControlException: accessDenied (java.util.PropertyPermission user.home read)
The help.jar is also located in the JNLP file as a resource to be loaded.
After some investigation I found that setting the System SecurityManager to null via System.setSecurityManager allowed JavaHelp to work. I don't think this, however, is a good fix. If anyone can find another workaround or fix for this, please let me know.
