We are upgrading from Java 1.2.2 to 1.4.2, I have been told that on a sparc upgrade where all we need is the 64bit version installed, that we also have to install the 32 bit version. Apparently the package install fails.
Is this required and can anyone explain why, or how you would get around this requirement?
Ultra Sparc III or newer, 64 bit Solaris 8.
Java itself is defined as 32 bit. The only difference 64 vs 32 bit makes is with the processor and platform you are running on. For instance at home I've got a dual core AMD machine, which of course needs a 64 bit version of java, even though bytecode is only 32 bit
