how to set up your website to accept credit card payments?

i have a website that generates reports. before the user generates a report, i want to charge them a fee. they will then enter in a payment (visa, master, american express, etc...). if the payment goes through, then the report will be generated for them.

my question is, how do i enable credit card or electronic payment to work on my website? i don't need a shopping cart framework, as that will be an overkill (and not necessary). do you have any recommendations as to which 3rd party company out there that will make this work? i don't want to go the paypal route (for a number of reasons).

      thanks.

I think the only way to do this is either you own an EDI device (for swiping the credit card) and then you write a package for using it, or by using a payment gateway service like paypal then you don't have to use EDI.
I highly recommend you to use third party payment gateway service, because the first alternative will require you to consider for a very high security risk.
