    Forum Admins

I see that this site has the ability to have announcements at the top of a fourm.

      For example:

      http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=534

I am assuming this is new because I have not see it before. When will a FAQ announcement be created for this forum, it is the most popular and most needed. Also maybe a separate announcement title "Read Before you Post".

Having these two announcements, I believe would eliminate some of the common problems, like not using code tags, not posting all the error message, etc.

And I am sure we can put together some FAQs. Like difference between arraylist and vector, difference between inheritance and abstract class, etc.

I don't think the Forum Admin read any threads on this forum. You might have better luck with the DevNulledBack link on the side.

Ha! I wouldn't count on it. I have frequented other places with similar problems where they tried to prevent stupid posts by putting a FAQ etc. at the top, but it didn't work completely. They then tried making them more prominent, eventually with a MASSIVE RED FONT at the top of the page, but there were still those who didn't read them :/

There will always be some. Those are the same people who post on the end of a repeat of a question that was answered. (They won't even read the previous replies!).

However, some people will read them, and the ones that don't, you can post a link to it, rather than having to explain what an abstract class is again, and again.

I think they read almost all of them.

There is an FAQ. I'm linking to it frequently. Its link is well-hidden in the description of the New to Java forum.

I have seen that, but it is missing some commons ones, plus like you said it is well-hidden.

I am just wondering since they have the feature in the forum to add an announcement, why don't they use it?

Wow, I never noticed it, really! It is in the last word of the forum's description, very well hidden IMHO!
That is not exactly what will stop people from posting stupid questions... :-(

The next person who asks "wat is differnce btw intfc and abstract class?" is not going to be saved by a link to the FAQ no matter where it is posted.

Making it a big red icon (like I suggested a dozen times now) won't help either, though.

Why don't we link to geekinterview.com?

Okay, someone might search and actually find this... Yeah. But it was a nice thought.
