At my work - a large hospital - we are evaluating a vendor's wireless badge for "instant" communication between doctors, nurses, and so on. The features of this system are such that I am suspecting a Java solution might do the same thing at a cheaper cost. Here are the features:
- voice enabled; e.g. the user says "Badge: Doctor John Smith, Cardiology", and it will instantly connect to Dr. Smith and they can have a hands free conversation (over a WiFi network)
Do you know jabber, XMPP, etc?
They have an API for Java called SMACK, and i already used in the past. Inform yourself, however i am not sure if it supports voice.
