    Golden Gate:  Failed to open target trail file

    johnb-Oracle
      All,

      I am following a very simple Golden Gate Tuturial.

      I have two DB servers, srv1, srv2 each with an 11gR2 DB running.

      I simply want to set up one-way schema replication, plus DDL between the scott schema.
      srv1 is the source
      srv2 is the destination

      Everytime I start the extract job, it runs briefly then abends. Here is the error in the ggserr.log file:

      cat ggserr.log
      -------------------
      2010-10-20 15:26:36 INFO OGG-00987 Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle: GGSCI command (oracle): start extract ext1.

      2010-10-20 15:48:32 INFO OGG-00987 Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle: GGSCI command (oracle): send replicat.

      This is the version of Golden Gate I am using:

      Oracle GoldenGate Command Interpreter for Oracle
      Version 11.1.1.0.0 Build 078

      Here is the parameter file for the extract (on srv1):

      extract ext1
      userid ggate, password ggate
      rmthost srv2, mgrport 7809
      rmttrail /u01/app/oracle/product/ggs/dirdat/lt
      ddl include mapped objname scott.*;
      table scott.* ;

      Here is the parameter file for replicat (on srv2):

      replicat rep1
      ASSUMETARGETDEFS
      userid ggate, password ggate
      discardfile /u01/app/oracle/product/ggs/discard/rep1_discard.txt, append, megabytes 10
      DDL
      map scott.*, target scott.*;

      Seems simple enough, but I cannot get this to run. Any suggestions?

      Thanks,

      John

          Hi John,

          Can you please specify your mgr parameters on both extract and replicat side.
          I think you specified the wrong port in mgr parameter file on replicat side and thats the reason the extract was not able to write to that location.

          Specify your target replicat mgr params as PORT 7809 and it will work.

          Thanks.

            mgr.prm

            PORT 7809

            On both source and destination.

            I think I actually resolved original issue. I put in an invalid exttrail at one point. It is not apparent
            until you use the command:
            info exttrail *
            Which showed the extra, incorrect & non-existent path.

            I am now battling with another basic problem.

            I can configure an extract and replicat process that do not abend, until I try to add data.
            Then I get this:

            It looked like perhaps a supplemental logging issue. I added supplemental logging. Problem still occurs.

            It also looks like I have some configuration files still lingering. I have built and broken down the replication path
            several times. I do not know the GG directory structure well enough to know if I have not missed something.
            I just ensure that no files are int eh $GGHOME/dirdat directory

            If anyone has seen this before, please advise.

            Thanks,

            John

              Hi John,

              Is this of yours is a typo mistake or you really missed it.

              replicat rep1
              ASSUMETARGETDEFS
              userid ggate, password ggate
              discardfile /u01/app/oracle/product/ggs/discard/rep1_discard.txt, append, megabytes 10
              DDL
              map scott., target scott.;

              it should be
              DDL INCLUDE MAPPED
              DDLERROR DEFAULT IGNORE RETRYOP
              map scott.*, target scott.*;

              Did you do this on extract side
              ggsci> dblogin userid <username> password <pwd>
              ggsci> add trandata scott.*

              One more thing is did you enable the archive log mode to true at the database level. If not please enable it so that you don't lose data during replication.
              I think enabling the archive log may solve your problem.

              Thanks.
