        telnet and ssh are two different technologies.
        check to see if sshd is running on your system by executing following command:

        # svcs -a | grep network/ssh
        online Feb_20 svc:/network/ssh:default

        It should return online as above. If it returned disabled or offline, you need to start it.
        Once you make sure that ssh is running, you can ssh into your system w/ regular user.
        To login as root, you need to edit the sshd_config file because root login is disabled by default.
        Look for the line PermitRootLogin" and change no* to yes in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file.
        Restart ssh with:

        # svcadm refresh network/ssh

        After this, you should be able to login as root.
