Set Solaris 10 IP with IOCTL?

Is it possible to set an IP number on a Solaris 10 system using ioctl and SIOCSIFADDR? Whenever I try it ioctl throws a "no such device or address error", this even though I've verified that everything is correct.

Although the interface is available, I'm fairly sure this is unsupported. I very, very dimly recall trying to do something like this quite a while ago. Back in the days when I had more time to experiment I came across a couple things it looked like you could do but actually couldn't, like write and load your own system call.

This might be a better question to ask somewhere on the OpenSolaris forums. More engineers are listening in on those groups and might know off the tops of their heads.
