Solaris 10 U8 x86: support for SATA III?

807559Jun 29 2010 — edited Jul 2 2010
Hello,

I'm trying to install Solaris 10 U8 x86 on a x86 box. The HD is on a SATA III port. Sun is unable to identify the HD. I previously had a Linux distro on this machine, and it identifies the HD w/ no problem. Can someone please tell me if Solaris 10 U8 x86 supports SATA III? If not, how about Opensolaris?

Thank you,

Carlo

You've chosen to post this to a sub-forum specific to questions on Sun-branded hardware. However you have an OS compatibility question, not a hardware problem.

I'll be asking the moderators to move this to a more appropriate subforum so that it might get better on-topic exposure.

But as to your initial question?
Go read the OS release notes for Solaris and then go read them for OpenSolaris. That is where such information on capabilities and limitations would be.

Carlo,

It is working fine for me with the SATA III hard disk, i have installed dual OS in this, one is vista and other one solaris 10 u8 for x86platform.

i have NTFS file system for vista and ZFS file system for solaris.

during installation solaris able to identify the vista partition as well but we can't modify any primary partitions of vista using solaris so i have created free space by loging into vista and installed solaris on that free space and now both the OS are working fine.
