Installing Solaris 10 x86 on a Dell Optiplex GX620

807559Dec 5 2005 — edited Jul 22 2009
I searched for both Optiplex and this model and couldn't find any useful info. Basically, (From both a known good copy of install CDs or an install DVD) The sytem boots as far as:

SunOS Secondary Boot version 4.02

and then it just hangs for eternity. Keyboard is unresponsive and I have to hit the power button to get it to reboot.

This is on a brand new Dell Optiplex GX620 (3.6 GHz P4, Intel 945G chipset, ATI Radeon x600 SE (128) graphics card, SATA (Samsung) HD) 2GB of Ram.

I have tried the following in the BIOS:
Turning off Hyperthreading
Turning off SpeedStep
Changing the SATA controller from Normal to "Combined" mode (this is supposed to help with compatability with programs or OSes that don't recognize SATA)

I have used the following OSes with this machine so far:
Knoppix (v4.02)
Fedora Core 5 (Test 1)
Windows XP

I have verified that the BIOS on this machine is at the highest current revision (A05).

Any suggestions for getting past this point in installation would be appreciated.

Micah
