Not enough memory pboot

807559Feb 14 2005 — edited Oct 26 2005
Hi,

I am trying to install Solaris 10 on Intel 850MV desktop
board with 1GB main memory and 40GB HDD.

However, when booting from the install CD-ROM,
the PC (boot loader) shows a message "Not
enough memory pboot" and stops completely.
The CD-ROM works correctly on the other PCs.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

I resolved this problem by changing the BIOS settings:
PhoenixBIOS - Advanced System Configuration - BIOS Work Space Location
from (the default)
Top of Base Memory (optimizes for maximum available space for BIOS extensions as present on SCSI cards etc)
to
Expansion ROM Area (optimizes for maximum available DOS memory)

A note - I did not have this problem, on the same PC, with the Solaris 10 Early Access CD

Hope this helps you also

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the setting item "BIOS Work Space Location" in the Advanced System Configuration menu. The item may be located in "extended configuration" menu. However, it is grayed and cannot be selected.

I heard that the pboot problem may be due to a new AMD64 support feature. So, you may not have this problem with early access CD. But the details are still unclear.
