just fishing for some more data here:
          1. what user do log onto dscc with/as ?
          2. does /opt/SUNWdsee/ds6/bin/dsadm has the proper rights for that user ?

let me know if this gets you going

I use root to login the java web console. When I click the dscc link, it will try to bring up the registry (I believe that is a ds server under /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/dcc/ads). Since the ds server failed to startup, it brought up those information.

However, I could not understand why the registry can't get to run. The registry was installed with the JES5. Do I have to do something for the ds?

The following is the error log for the ds server (registry): (by the way, I use root to run all these apps)

The registry server got started. And I can bring up the dscc login page. But I don't know what's the password for "admin".

don't you need to log in as root ?
there are two level of authentication. the first login web page is on the local machine, and then you need to authenticate against the 'registry' server (the ads you had trouble to start)
                • 5. Re: dscc6 error
                  807573
I knew that the first login page is for Java Web Console, which I should use OS login ID (either root or any ID with proper privilege). The second login page is for DSCC.

The default id is "admin", if I check the error log, I can see it will goes to "cn=admin,cn=Administrators,cn=dscc". However, If I hit login, it will report err=32, since there is no such object in my registry.

My question is do I have to configure the registry using some command? Do I have to create DIT tree and manually create this id of "admin. WHen I looked at the admin guide of DSEE6, it will say "if this is the first time login, you should setup your password for the Directory Service Administrator". For God sake, how do I know where to set it up. If the admin guide can't guide me, where I can ask for?

DSEE6 is a totally different from point of admin, there should have something for quick reference.

                  Thanks!

Here is the error I got when I tried to login dscc:

                    BIND dn="cn=admin,cn=Administrators,cn=dscc" method=128 version=3
                    [12/Apr/2007:16:18:27 -0400] conn=28 op=0 msgId=1 - RESULT err=32 tag=97 nentries=0 etime=0

**** the error is very obvious to me since there is even no suffix in the registry. I checked the dse.ldif which include one similar id under cn=config.

                    Thanks!

There is clearly something broken with the private DS instance (registry).

I would strongly suggest that you remove and recreate the registry:
                      # /opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/bin/dsccsetup ads-delete
(check that that there is no remaining files under /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/)

                      # /opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/bin/dsccsetup ads-create

                      Regards,

                      Ludovic.

Thank you very much Lodovic! Finally you helped me out. Now I am able to login the dscc and start managing my ds and dps servers.

As a Sun DSEE user, I find myself in a very embarrassing and frustrating situation. The resource looks so limited that I feel so helpless.

I hope there is such a database like Oracle metalink that we could post our problems and search for the answers. Does Sun have similar resources?

I have to admit that my knowledge about Sun resouces is very limited. Please forgive me if I were wrong.

By the way, I will keep on posting my questions (or even compaint) here since I would like to get myself familir (master) with this new product. I don't want to just put a new version which I (as a LDAP admin) am even new to production.

                        Thank you Lodovic!

DSCC seems to be the fragile piece of DSEE 6.0 since it is new, it relies on several sub-components that are small by nature, but not obvious to configure and use (Sun Web Console, Cacao and JDMK).

We're listening and we will make the deployment of DSCC more reliable in 6.1, and also offer the ability to deploy it as a web app in other App servers (the list of supported App servers is being finalized).

The 2 tricks for now to remember is:
                          - install as root, log to DSCC the first time as root.
                          - if something is broken, try dsccsetup dismantle and then dsccsetup initialize
(check dsccsetup -? to understand what it does).

                          Regards,

                          Ludovic.

Thank you very much, Lodovic. Also very appriciated for the 2 tricks in your suggestion. After reading your previoius post and finishing my dscc setup, I have writen down the summary, which is coverd in your "tricks".

It looks that I can wait for the 6.1 realeasing. I am familiar with some Application server and I hope the new release will really give me some relief.

Thank you again for your help. I really learned a lot.

                            Sincerely,

                            Shelly

I have tried assigning duke dollar to this post, however something happened in this app. I am not sure what is going on.

Hello, I'm installing DSEE6.0 on a Solaris 10 server, and I was getting the exact same error as sun_iplanet was.

I've tried the 2 tricks given, and now I'm getting the following:

Any ideas? I'm running all this as root. I've also tried un-installing everything, cleaned up the files which the installer forgets to remove upon un-install, and starting from scratch.

                                    Hi,

                                    Hello, I'm installing DSEE6.0 on a Solaris 10 server,
and I was getting the exact same error as sun_iplanet
                                    was.

I've tried the 2 tricks given, and now I'm getting
                                    the following:

                                    # ./dsccsetup initialize
                                    ***
                                    DSCC Application is already registered
                                    ***
                                    DSCC Agent is already registered

                                    error code 111
The error 111 (when creating DSCC Registry) indicates that the default port number for the Registry (3998) is currently in use.

You may want to use netstat to check which process is using the port number.
