Debugging Java code without creating a project

It is the nature of my job to work(mostly debugging) on different branches and products, so mounting a local/remote directory with src and attaching a debugger without the need to create a project is important to me. Unfortunately I am stuck with Sun Studio 5 for this type of functionality because I can't find a way to make things as simple in NetBeans 6.5.
Would anyone know if this can be done in 6.5 or is this feature planned for the next version maybe?
