    running flash files...

    801443
      I have a java application and i want to be able to run a flash animation file. Now i was wondering if it is possible that i host my flash file on a webserver and then call the webserver to load the flash file for me.

      If it is possible can you please highlight some of the steps that i need to do?

          Does anybody have an idea on how to go about it or post a link to the examples documenting the same?

            Nope. Not a clue. I reckon your first step would be to ask "what does it mean to 'load' a flash file?". Then ask "what do I expect to happen?"

                you might wanna try JFlashPlayer (http://www.jpackages.com/jflashplayer/). I've never used Flash cause I'm allergic to it...

                  What type of java application? Web app or standalone swing application? If you have web application (I don't know much about them), then you just have to embed your flash file in some html page and let the browser do the rest. If you have swing application, then you have to use some 3rd party tool to run flash files in swing application. I found [this (<-link)|http://djproject.sourceforge.net/ns/index.html] some time ago, you can try it.

                  Thanks!

                    Thanks a lot for the info. I finally got it to work the way i wanted. I simply installed the apache server, put the html file with flash content embedded onto it and hosted it in to the server. Then i modified my Java application code to invoke the underlying systems browser to run the html file for me in the web browser. The page at
                    [http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip66.html] had some good insights into launching the html page from the java application.

                    Thanks a lot people!!!!!!!!!!!

                      Did you note that this article is more than a decode old. It has outdated information. From 1.6 onwards, the correct way to launch the browser is simply:
                      Desktop.getDesktop().browse(htmlPageURI);
                      ( [API doc link|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Desktop.html#browse(java.net.URI)] )

                      Thanks!
