BPMN or straight to BPEL, that is the question

We have a project with Business Analysts busily creating BPMN 2.0 documents for us. They are using visio so its not like we can capture everything needed to create BPEL but its a good start. They are capturing the customer requirements and not defining the system solution so we would not expect BPEL ready BPMN anyway.
The question is, is there any merit to us picking up their BPMN and putting into our SOA suite and then generating BPEL after adding all the real world solution elements into the BPMN? Or should we go straight to BPEL and interprit the BPMN?
Clearly removing missinterpritation if we pick up BPMN but write BPEL is important but so is the reality can BPMN be round tripped and used is equally important.
I am looking for answers from people that have actually done this and not like me have just read "official" stories about success using it.
Thanks for any answers or in particular experiences people have to give.
