Employee Access to ULN or Public Yum?

For employees that want to maintain OEL environments at home, off the Oracle Intranet, do they need to have access to the ULN or can they obtain everything they need to keep their systems current, patched and operating on par with internal systems by simply using the public Yum update servers?

There are multiple unanswered requests for the answer to this question or questions similar to it, so I would appreciate a timely, complete answer. If access to ULN provides "more capabilities" than just accessing public Yum update servers, any information on how employees would gain access to ULN, short of having the employees buy support licenses, would be appreciated.

No. The Public YUM server only contains the packages as released on the DVD ISO images. It does not contain updates, errata or bug fixes within a release. That is only available via ULN.

The official, timely and complete answer is to use the Oracle VPN and our internal ULN services. There are unofficial methods as well. For those, please email me directly from your Oracle employee email address.
