Ok . What i thought that if he has entry like this in MANIFEST file which specifies main -class it should work.
This is why I leave Jar creation and manifests to the Ant build tool. Specify a few parameters correctly in the build file and leave it software to write the manifest, is my thinking.

with a blank line after the Main-Class: BasicCalculator
Could it be because my program is a completely text-based program that nothing pops up and I must go to the command window manually?
