For anyone else that is searching this and gets here. The user name and password are both "oracle".
I have already been so clever to read the "Getting Started" docs. ;)
oracle/oracle does NOT work for me when accessing the APEX web interface ("Invalid Login Credentials").
Maybe the workspace is another? Default suggests "obe", also tried "oracle". Doesn't work...
I wish I could get that far. My apex does not run in the vm. The whole setup seams broken so I just ended up building a Win Server 2003 box myself.
Nice idea on Oracles part but so far completely useless for me.

Running fine here except that I cannot get the network interface running (no matter if I choose bridged or host-only mode), but I guess that is due to some weird McAfee NDIS AV-driver that intercepts traffic on our corporate network somehow.
You checked the firewall I presume? Did you also check the ip address to see if it was getting a good ip?
Found it in the first screenshot from the "Hands-On Labs > Oracle APEX > Manipulating Database Objects Using Oracle Applicaition Express 4.0"
That did the trick for me.
With me it seemed that apex wasn't respoding. Using this url solved the proble don't know why
That worked for me.
Also had issues with the setup. Downloaded Virtualbox and the appliance today (May 22nd). While it generally worked ok, the links to APEX didn't work (Firefox cold not reach host/URL).
Then I remembered a short popup-window from Virtualbox which said "recommend to upgrade Guest Additions ..." and the Guest additions in the file were 3.xxx whereas Virtualbox is 4.xxx
So I installed the new Guest Additions and then the links to APEX worked. And for login to APEX I used OBE (for all, workspace, user, password). You can see them if you click on the respective screenshots in the Tutorial description.
For me the below login credentials are not working:
workspace : obe
password : obe
goto /home/orale/apex and login to sqlplus as sys.
execute @apxxepwd.sql to reset internal password (Keep it as oracle for consistency)
Then login using the following
Hope You might have figured out an solution for this.
For those who still face the problem, in your VM go to Applications--> Accessories --> Terminal
-> run this script, reset_apex.
-> after this you can use
workspace - obe
username - obe
password - obe
This worked for me. So i hope this will work for you too.
Thanks, worked a treat.
FYI in 11.2 apex 4.1 it is
