8i/9i Database Announcement vs Linux Distribution

114767Nov 28 2001
Hi,
a lot of posts here are about installation on a specific Linux
distribution, some of them are very helpful, thanks!

Here I have some questions:
can anyone tell me exactly which distrubtions(especially
RedHat7.1/7.2, SuSE7.1/7.2/SLES 7) are officially announced as
supported or certified platform by Oracle?(I mean Oracle
Database 8.1.7 and 9i)
Where can I read these announcements, from Oracle/RedHat..?

I believe 8i/9i can be installed on all these conventional
distributions if we're patient enough digging on them, but I'm
badly in need of the official announcements at this moment.

Another thing, I heard about the only certified distribution for
9i database is SuSE7.1(kernel 2.4.4, Glibc2.2), but the SuSE7.1
I have is at kenel level 2.4.0-64GB-SMP, is that imply
rebuilding 2.4.4 kernel is mandatory? Is there a SuSE7.1 iso
image at level 2.4.4?

Your reply is highly appreciated!
