    FSEM JFrame - need to support 2d and 3d displayble components

      Hi all,

      I'm working through a Java2D tutorial. I'm using the Active Rendering technique to display a JFrame in Full Screen Exclusive Mode. Within that JFrame, I am drawing multiple components. One of them is a small "window" that displays an periodically updating image:
                     Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
                     g2d.drawImage(newImage, Layout.VIDEO_X_POS, Layout.VIDEO_Y_POS, null);
      I would like to add another piece to the display where I draw a periodically updating 3d model. I believe my options for this are Java3D or JOGL. However, I am not sure if it is even possible given my choice of FSEM and the Active Rendering technique. My own research into the topic has shown that mixing a heavyweight component (like those needed for java3d and jogl) with the lightweight JFrame can lead to trouble.

      Any advice on how to proceed to support a 3d component within the JFrame / FSEM / ActiveRendering approach would be greatly appreciated.
