As long as ODI has a valid connection to Essbase you can have it installed anywhere.
Ok, well Essbase sits on a separate box, and currently Planning does have access to it i.e. it "talks to" the Essbase box.
Is there anything specific I have to do to have it talk to the Essbase box?
As long as the essbase client is installed on the server here you are trying to access Essbase from then that is all that is required. Regardless of where the main ODI install is located you could always have an ODI agent installed on the Essbase server and just make sure that all ODI jobs/scenarios interacting directly with Essbase execute via that agent.
