Yes, in workbench you can export locations, scripts, periods, etc in the current application and then import into the new application.
While it is true that you can export /import fdm objects via the workbench please be aware that it is recommended that only use this approach when importing into new empty applications. Using this method for incremental updates gives unpredictable results, especially when locations are involved.
I agree with and have proven SH's comments. Each Location is auto assigned an ID starting with 750, when you import new locations they do not bring this ID with them. If you import to a clean FDM, the locations are created in the same order. If you need to export/import a set of locations, I would just export the locations, import them. Log into the new FDM, find the location IDs. For all of the maps and other items, export to excel, change the location key to what it is in the new FDM, then import the excel files.
Since this is a brand new empty FDM application, you can use the Export/Import funcationality within the workbench client to perform this process.
a) Login to the source application using the workbench client
b) Choose File > Export. You will be prompted for a filename for the export file that will be created, you can name it whatever you like.
c) The next screen will request what items to export, click the "Select All" button. Click on the second tab and check the "export maps with locations" box and click OK to create the XML file.
d) Login to the target application using the workbench client
e) Choose File > Import. Select the XML file created in step c and click "open"
f) Click the "Select All" button and click on the second tab and check the "import maps with location" box and click OK
Thank you all for the Kind reply.
I just exported the locations, periods and scripts in workbench with the option "export maps with locations" and imported to the newly created application.
while I attempt to import the data in the new application for all locations , the entity's are missing in the import
I am not able to import the source entity for the respective location, Please suggest.
Sounds like your import format assigned to the location does not match the source file. Double-check that you are importing the correct file for the location and that the import format matches the file structure.
you are correct, the problem is with the import format only. we have changed the import format, now its loaded successfully. Thank you.
