As this is your first post, please read the forum announcements first. Then get back with more info.

    Let me repeat:

    For All Forum Posters

Posters, please mind these common-sense rules when participating here:

When asking a question, provide all the details that someone would need to answer it. For example we need SQL Developer version, DB version, Java version, and OS as a minimum. A reproducible example is also important, where appropriate.
When answering a question, please be courteous; there are different levels of experience represented here. A poorly worded question is better ignored than flamed - or better yet, help the poster ask a better question.
It is considered good form to reward answerers with points (as "helpful" - 5 pts - or "correct" - 10pts).

Smile to the world and it will smile back?

Your argument is valid - the way you transfer it is - making the guy not return. To what extend was that what you intended?

Yeah, you're right... and those were actually friendly posts, I don't always ask for "please" and usually don't bother after my first post ;)
If I'm brief in my responses above, it's because I know the kind of posters who won't be happy until you do their work for them and give it on a silver plate within 30 minutes.
Seems this is the case here - if the OP really wants his problem solved he would give the details asked for.

    Have fun,
    K.

I totally agree! Client satisfaction is in focus.

To the point: I was looking for a solution to this issue that I experienced with SQL Developer 3.0.03 Build MAIN-03.97 and I reinstalled 2.1.1.64 Build MAIN-64.45 -- and it does not show the "No more data to read from socket" message but actually runs the SQL and renders the expected result.

To my need this release is as good as release 3.0 - so I stay with 2.1 untill the issue is fixed.

    Cheers

You can install both of them.
If you want, open a new thread for your issue (with the needed environment details), and let's see if we can catch what's wrong...

Could you try the GA release, Version 3.0.04?

Could you try the GA release, Version 3.0.04? Hi,

Perhaps I could elaborate on this problem, as I am also running into it.

    Details below:
    OS: 64bit Windows 7 Enterprise
    SQL Client: JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0
Database: Oracle XE 11g Express (11.2.0)

When I try and create a connection in Jdeveloper, I receive the following error:

"Test failed: No more data to read from socket"

This is after having fixed a problem with the Listener not running as it couldnt connect to my hostname. I changed the hostname is listener.ora to 127.0.0.1. I have also changed the XE database connection type from to 'SHARED'.

Any help would be appreciated - more details below.

    Thanks,

    Matthew

Hi, just to follow up (if anyone else is also running into this problem).

Basically, you just have to remove the listener.ora file, and stop and start the TNS Listener through "lsnrctlr stop" and "lsnrctlr start".

I couldn't stop the listener from within the command line, I needed to go into Windows Services to stop it.

You can find the full solution below:

Listener does not currently know of SID given in connection descriptor
