      Hi Folks,

I have installed the SOA 11g (11.1.1.5.0) along with other required softwares but when I am trying to start the weblogic server <domain>\bin\startWebLogic.cmd from with domain, it is throwing the out-of-memory exceptions as,

I tried to manipulate the JVM memory setting in the setSOADomainEnv.cmd file but no luck. Currently, the setting are:

      set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
      set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms256m -Xmx512m
      set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms128m -Xmx256m -XX:CompileThreshold=8000

if "%JAVA_VENDOR%" == "Oracle" goto OracleJVM
      set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
      set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m

Again, I am not sure what are the right setting for running SOA on weblogic in Windows 7 64 bit O/S.

      Any help is really appreciated.

          Hi All,

In continuation to my last post, I modified the memory setting as under,

          set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
          set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms256m -Xmx512m
          set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m -Xmx768m  -XX:CompileThreshold=8000

if "%JAVA_VENDOR%" == "Oracle" goto OracleJVM
          set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
          set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m

This allowed the server starting process to move a little further but again encountered with an error as under,

          Loading Preference Migrators...Ok

are you using a 64 bit JVM?
            "java -version" will tell you
Eventually add the -d64 flag to the JVM options...

Thanks and yes the machine is 64bit but can you please be more specific where I need to set the flag !!

you should check if you use a 64bit JVM... not a 64bit operating System...

when you run startWebLogic, the first thing it prints is "java -version", which should tell you if it's 32 or 64 bit (if you don't see "64" then it's "32" by default)
But of course you must have installed a 64 bit JVM....and you must be using this 64 bit JVM to start WebLogic !

To force the JVM in 64 bit mode, the official way if to set -d64 in USER_MEM_ARGS in setDomainEnv.cmd

                  Hi All,

Finally, was successful in starting SOA 11g on my laptop. The issue was that I was creating a domain supporting all the available products leading to out-of-memory. This time I only selected what was required as you may modify these domains at a later stage to support more products.

                  Hope this helps!

In case anyone else runs into this issue, you will also get this error if you try to start your managed server using node manager through the weblogic console without first running $MW_HOME/oracle_common/common/bin/setNMProps.sh. This is only required once at install but it's needed to properly configure node manager.
