    problem during startup

    793965
      hi gems..

      I have installed oracle 11gR2 in my windows machine in noarchivelog mode...
      Then i shutdown and mounted the database to run it in archivelog mode...

      alter database archivelog;
      (its successful)

      Now when i tried to open the database by "alter database open" command, then it is failing...I have also tried to shutdown abort and then again startup open, then also it is failing with the same error...

      SQL> alter database open;
      alter database open
      *
      ERROR at line 1:
      ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
      Process ID: 3168
      Session ID: 125 Serial number: 11

      pls help..

          Generally speaking, if the database doesn't start, you need to consult the alert log.

          Can you please stop using IM-speak like 'pls'? This is a forum of professionals.

                It seems you have posted the contents of the trace file, have you seen any thing from Alert log file?

                2011-07-07 12:39:14.000: [ default]ut_read_reg:2:ocr registry key SOFTWARE\Oracle\olr cannot be opened. error 2

                it seems corruption of REGISTRY

                what is the status of the service of oracle in services.msc.

                exit the session , and startup the isntance, if not then use FORCE option, post the errors if any.

                      no..i didnt tried...but after seeing the error log i have tried but its failed because the instance is not connected...i have freed the space manually by deleting some of the old files but still the error remains

                            using report/list check the expired/obsolete backup or others in RMAN, and delete them,remember crosscheck archivelog all first

                              ORA-03113 End of File on Communication Channel:

                              Solution 1: Look for the Alert log file for any error message. If the ORA-03113 error is reported in the alert log it will be accompanied by any other error message.

                              Solution 2:for listener.log file size. If the file size is too large, try to stop the listener, create a new listener.log and restart the listener.$ LSNRCTL STOP$ mv listener.log listener_old.log$ LSNRCTL START ( This will create a new listener.log file).

                              Solution 3: Check for network issues. Ping the server. Check for any protocol error. Get the help of networking people in resolving these errors.

                              Solution 4: Firewall error. There is a setting in the firewall namely, connection timeout, look for the value in this setting

                              Solution 5: If none of the above step works. Contact Oracle Support.

                                Move some of the archives on different location.
                                Or increase the FRA take the backup
                                Or change the archive log destination to another mount point and start the database.
