Use xvfb (X virtual Frame Buffer) and then you should be able to use xdmcp.
You could also look into vnc
Hi. I have used vnc before and it was ok but a bit slow. I will have to search for xvfb and xdmcp. Where do they run? Could you say a few lines on where the various pieces run and how they are used? I'll look online in the meantime. Thanks.
xvfb is just that. A virtual (non-existant) frame buffer that you can use on a headless system.
On Solaris 11 Express it's just:
pkg install x11/server/xvfb
For xdmcp use:
pkg install system/display-manager/xdm
and then configure as you would as if you had a display adapter in the host machine.
Hi and thanks for your help. At this moment X forwarding is good enough for me. I will follow up your ideas so I can get a complete CDE desktop.
