Can't connect to mysql from a particular box

I'm running Solaris 10. I'm trying to connect to a mysql db server running on another machine on the network, and it keeps failing with "Cannot connect to remote server". I can connect to the db server from other machines on the network, and I can telnet into the db server from the machine that I am trying to connect to mysql on. However, when I run telnet <dbserver> 3306, it hangs and doesn't connect.

Any ideas what could be causing this? The problem is definitely with the source server I am trying to connect from, and as far as I can tell, it only affects mysql connections.
