¿recodset is equal to database?

is seen to store databases in a cell is through a recodset,
but this is not complete because you can not wing database queries with the SELECT statement or change a record with the UPDATE command.
then this part as it is as if the recordset was a flat file?
If anyone knows any way to make databases that is neither in mysql, oracle can tell me?
for example a cell has to store them and contact list do this? since one can edit the contact name phone number of fax etc
