    Sun T6340 DIMM error

    user13527731
I'm trying to increase the RAM in a T6340 and have purchased some "compatible" DIMMs (from http://orcalogic.co.uk/asp/Sun_Sun_Blade_T6340_Server_Module_Memory-91475-m-1.htm).

On installing the DIMMs, the server refuses to power on and I get errors in the the ILOM event logs (see below).

Does anyone know if this is a RAM incompatibility or if this is fixable through a firmware update? I'm running ILOM SP firmware version 3.0.3.20.e.

I have removed all the original RAM as well as trying to mix it with the new RAM but only the original RAM works. When the new RAM is installed, the ILOM detects it, marks it as okay and sets the component_state to Enabled, which I interpret to mean the chip is okay(?).

      Thanks for any help!

What is so difficult to understand?

Return them to the vendor and get proper memory modules.
Yes, the proper RAM may be significantly more expensive, but you won't be worying about their functionality.

Additionally, keep in mind that ANY issue that can be vaguely traced to, or blamed upon, non-approved hardware will deny you proper assistance from Oracle technical support for as long as they stay in the chassis.
