It might be carriage return characters in the parameter files - make sure that your sqlnet.ora and ldap.ora are in Unix format.
Linux versions of vi tend to switch seamlessly between unix and dos modes so it isn't always obvious - you can double check with something like 'od -c sqlnet.ora'
Did you set your ORACLE_HOME var?
it might help solve the problem.
