            is this spfile<SID>.ora exist in $ORACLE_HOME or $ORACLE_HOME/dbs? as per above ouput pasted your file is in $ORACLE_HOME.

            what is the version? is it 11g?

            then create as
            SQL> create pfile from memory;
            or copy the initialization parameters from alert logfile from previous startup.

              /var/adm/messages
              is not showing any useful error msg its showing only failed login.

              we have cold backup policy the database is using the same spfile daily.

                The output of ls -lrt is within the path $ORACLE_HOME\dbs only

                We have database version 10.2.0.4 .also the same spfile is getting used daily to have cold backup of the database.

                also i set the permission 777 to the file.

                  Ok, i guess there would be corruption of SPFILE like if edited manually or some other cases too.

                  Do you have any backup of SPFILE? or backup of PFILE?

                  then startup using that SPFILE, if no backup then startup with PFILE and then create SPFILE from PFILE.

                  if not, you can copy the contnets of initialization parameters from alert log file and paste in editor and starutp instance.

                  These would be the options.
