I have been trying to figure out the best way to get the mac addresses for the network ports on X series (intel/amd based) systems. I have yet to find a quick and reliable way on new systems without an operating system installed on them. I need the mac address in order to configure the jumpstart server to install the OS on the systems. The best I have come up with is by using a network analyzer to view any arp/rarp requests and getting the mac from that..but this is not always available, and I would like to be able to do this from the lom, bios or other means on the system itself. Any suggestions?
It should be written on the yellow papers which you get with your system, apart from that, unless you already do so you could use DHCP to supply information to your servers, which makes it less critical to get the MAC addresses..
