    playing with adf layout components

    Subramanian Meyyappan
      hi experts,

      am using jdev 11.1.1.5.0 - adfbc - oracle db 10g - mozilla ff 9.01.

      no problem with my project.

i get it what i expect , while am playing with layout components

      the question hitting me always,

sometimes these components makes me painful.

      In line style class:
      where i have to use af:strecthwidth ? af:auxillarystrecthwidth?

i know that these components well suits for
      af:panelcollection and af:table and some

      In width and height
      where i have to use px(pixels)? percentage(%) ?
      most probably all.

      i made some stupid mistakes

i did not know that it's really stupid? or not

      for eg:

i use some af:strecthwidth for af:panel collection and use width property in 368px.

if am used px instead of % means.

      alignment is not proper.

like this am used ah lot of components. some how well.

      but my question is:

px is dedicated for af:strecthwidth af:auxillarywidth?

this sentences make you more clear
is there any adf rule if you use px means you can use af:strecthwidth af:auxillarywidth
is there any adf rule if you use % means you can't or  dont use af:strecthwidth af:auxillarywidth

      so ,

      i searched in Ocean(google).

regards playing with layout(well documenatation or well bloged by any experts).

          ADF7,
didn't you ask this (or something similar) a short time ago?

Anyway you should read http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/feature/layoutBasics.jspx to get the overall feeling about how to design pages
          I guess you know Shay's video http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/adf_faces_layouts_demo_-ahid
This blog http://martindeh.blogspot.com/2009/08/adf-layout-overview-and-best-practices.html and http://www.adftips.com/2010/11/adf-ui-tips-to-stretch-different-adf.html also give some valuable hints.

My summary would be to avoid % values at all, only use px values when no other solution is possible. This lets you design pages which are scalable. I know this it not easy, but after designing about 1000 pages (: you get the practice ...
