Instance status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service in LISTNER.ora

The oracle database version is 11.2.0.3 and i have instance abcd plus 2 other instances.

Oracle When i run the lsnrctl status command i get the following. I only have 1 instance, dont know why it is showing 2 instances . All other instances only show 1

Service "abcd" has 2 instance(s).
Instance "abcd", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
Instance "abcd", status READY, has 1 handler(s) for this service...


I only see unkown for this instance, How can i get rid of it?

Also i am trying to establish oracle client 11.2.0.1 connection to this server and have set the TNSNAMES.ora file pointing to that server but not able to establisg connection
When i try to TNSPING abcd, i get ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occurred

Is this because of status UNKNOWN in listner.ora file? Please explain

I am not able to figure it out ..thanks a bunch
