    Hi, welcome to the forum!

The most basic Java certification is the Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_803

After passing the 1z0-803 exam (and recieving the OCA Java SE 7 Programmer certification), the next step is the Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer certification: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_804

After the OCP Java SE 7 Programmer you have a range of choices:

If you want to continue studying Java SE you can do an official approved course and go for the Oracle Certified Master, Java SE 6 Developer certification: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=321
It requires a programming assignment and an essay exam.

If you want to go for the JAVA EE path you can go for any of these certirfications (after becoming an OCP Java SE Programmer):
Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Web Services Developer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_897
Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Web Component Developer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_899
Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Java Persistence API Developer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_895
Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Java Persistence API Developer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_898

If you want the JAVA ME path there is currently one certification available (after becoming an OCP Java SE Programmer):
Oracle Certified Professional, Java ME 1 Mobile Application Developer: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_869

So basically the path is: OCA Java SE -> OCP Java SE and then you choose whether to go to OCM Java SE or do any of the OCE examinations in the Java EE field or the OCP certification in the Java ME area.

Depending on your experience you can go straight to the Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect certification (without even becoming an OCA!): http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=326
There are 3 steps envolved in it though, including taking an approved instructor-led online or in-class course.

You will find more details about all available exams here (including Java SE 6 and Java EE 5 exams/certifications): http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=141

In the links for each exam you will find the covered topics and recommended training.

    Hi!

As you can see there are many exams available.

Which exam are you refering to? Are you sure the links above don't have study recommendations for it?

One additional comment: If you plan to be successful as a Java Programmer or Java Developer, you will need to have a certain amount of self-motivation to seek out information and do some research as well as problem-solve. A LARGE amount of information was provide in the post above to help you get started. I would suggest that you do some research on the available options, get an idea of what each certification is about. Get an idea of the certification you wish to pursue first and what the requirements are for this certification. Access any of the preparation options that are available on the Oracle Certification pages and then come back to this forum for assistance with specific questions about the certification you are pursuing. This exercise will help you gain skills that will be valuable to you as a Programmer or a Developer.

Also, one note of caution - when you post on this forum that you want preparation materials, you may be contacted by unscrupulous people trying to sell brain dumps. Using brain dumps is cheating, any way you look at it. So, just be cautious of any offers or materials that you receive out of the blue. You can always check the legitimacy of a "study materials" provider in CertGuard's Brain Dump ID System http://bit.ly/w5n8lY.

Good luck with your certification path. As long as you are dedicated to doing the work necessary, you will be successful!

    Hi am Kiran,

I am planning to prepare for OCA JAVA SE7 exam myself but tried Epractice Lab and some of the dumps online but could not get the genuine links that can make me prepare completely, either the websites asks me to purchase the dumps or it will not have the complete info, i have downloaded the Exam moc papers but as a just outta college student i would like to download the course material contents to study independently. Could u plz provide me the dumps(OCA JAVA SE7 material to study) or the links. Also my concern is that right now am not working on the Java technology in my work place and am keen to work on Java projects in future, how does this course plays a role for a fresher who will be new to the technology.

The previous discussion was very useful, however i would like to get the genuine study materials to complete the certification.
    Thank u :)

Just out of curiosity, did you read the post you're replying to? I refer specifically to the part that read +"Also, one note of caution - when you post on this forum that you want preparation materials, you may be contacted by unscrupulous people trying to sell brain dumps. Using brain dumps is cheating, any way you look at it."+ Twice in your post you reference trying 'dumps', which leads me to believe that you did not, in fact, read the post.

That aside, you're unlikely to get any legal study materials specific to the test for free. The fact that you are a college student and have little money to spare does not change the fact that creating these materials takes a considerable amount of time for a person skilled with that particular technology. You want the certification so that you can be paid well for your knowledge. The people who take the time to write certification materials are already knowledgeable in that field (or they couldn't create the materials) and legitimately expect to be paid for their work in creating them.

You can learn what you need to know for any Oracle certification test by making use of the test topics on the Oracle Education site and the Oracle documentation that is freely available for download. It is easier to make use of prepared certification materials, but not required.

The response above is very through. I will only add that you will likely be hearing from OCP Fraud regarding the request for dumps. I will say again - using dumps is cheating. Please do not perpetuate the problem by using dumps. Cheating only devalues everyone's certification - yours included.

    Dear All,

I found there is a study guide from Oracle press for first level exam. "OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Study Guide (Exam 1Z0-803) (Oracle Press)". But i found this book is going to be released only on September'2012.

Is there an option for me to get any valid legal material for the above mentioned certification for self training.

I am looking for self learning training materials for

    1) OCA Java SE 7 Programmer (1Z0-803)
    2) OCP Java SE 7 Programmer (1Z0-804)

    Thank you.

Be aware the publication dates of these titles can slip .....

My understanging is some quality training for 'Java SE 6' OCA/OCP will still have some relevance .... also checkout {forum:id=923} which is more specialised but do watch out for non authorised material there.
