Yes - a display variable needs to be set - this is a requirement.
If you do not have physical display hardware, you can use an emulator such as Xvfb or VNC

Is it neccessary to have a machine which has a display hardware ?.It is mandatory, otherwise you will receive REP-3000 error.

since the current OS is sun, is it necessary to have the display hardware also running in SUN?No, you can set the DISPLAY to any other server.
