            Hi Badal,

Please check if you already have oracle instance process running with services.msc.

There would be service like "OracleService<ORACLE_SID>" , check if its running, if not try to start

              Hi,

at sqlplus / as sysdba -> do startup and then check the listener status....

              after that try sqlplus system/***@ORCL.

Please post the output of the above.

              Regards,

Database is open, Check the listener too.

Listener service also resides in services.msc, check for it.

                    run>service.msc

Thanks! But I had done that before as well! But I would like it to start it automatically as it used to be. Every time I restart the box, I am forced to do this. How can I fix it once for all?

listner is running. All oracle services which used to be running beofer the patch are running now as well.

For auto start of oracle service. you need to check this from services.msc

                            run>services.msc

Right click to oracle services and its properties and then make startuptype = Automatic

                            Thats it

Now every time your machine reboot your oracle services will also startup.

                            This will help

Under services.msc (start->run->services.msc), set the OracleServiceORCL to startup AUTOMATIC.

So, from next time, when you boot your machine, the service would be up automatically.

Also, in regedit (start->run->regedit), set ORA_<SID>_AUTOSTART to TRUE.

All services are set to start automatically

In the windows registry alsi I have ORA_SID_AUTOSTART set to TRUE and ORA_ORCL_SHUTDOWN set to TRUE.
Also ORA_ORCL_SHUTDOWNTYPE is set to N.

Can you check if there is a key as ORA_<SID>_PFILE in regedit ? If so, then please post its value.

                                    No, it is not there!
Before applying the patch registry had lot of entries for oracle. After the patch it almost had nothing.
I added some entries as I continued reading on the net.

I am not sure what other entries and values should I add!

                                    any help is appreciated.
