Hi, I'm hitting an issue with OBIEE 126.96.36.199 that I thought I'd see if anyone else is having. The problem is this - when I create dashboard prompts, I'm seeing "NULL" values show up in the list, even though the columns do not contain any rows with NULLs.
For example, on a checkbox prompt, I'll see values:
It creates a separate checkbox and gives it a name of NULL. But if I look at the NQQuery.log (or just run the SQL myself), I can clearly see it's only returning Value 1 through Value 3 - there are no NULL values.
Also, if I create a dropdown box type control, I'll see a blank line at the top, which again seems to be a bogus NULL value.
The curious thing - these dashboards / prompts were migrated from 188.8.131.52, where they worked perfectly.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?
I experienced the same issue in 184.108.40.206 and it was working fine in 220.127.116.11. In the physical layer of the repository there is a column attribute "nullable" - with this attribute checked I was seeing "NULL" in the dashboard prompts. After unchecking "nullable", I no longer had this issue.
Thank you, Paul
In the dashboard prompt, you can check the "Require user input" option to remove this NULL value from the value list.
Alternatively, for the "Choice List Values", instead of using All Column Values, use SQL Results to explicitly excluding NULL. For example:
SELECT "Year"."Year" FROM "BM" WHERE "Year"."Year" IS NOT NULL
Go--> Physcial layer-->extarct your table--> double click your prompt column--> check nullable.
GO--> your prompt-->Show-->sql results--> SELECT your column name FROM your subject area where your column name is not null
Hopt it help's
This bug workaround does not work in all cases. I have unchecked the 'NULLABLE' option in the physical layer, but I still get the NULL value. Interestingly, the problem is not in the SQL that is being sent to the database. It is quite ordinary, and returns the correct results. The NULL is something that OBIEE is adding after the fact.
Neither can I use the Logical SQL, because I want this prompt to cascade, i.e. I want to use the Limit values to All Prompts option, which is unavailable when using SQL Results as the dropdown type.
